Here are the facts: King John ran his campaign claiming that "Under a Metsopoulos administration he would adhere to a much higher standard". And he followed that up with the following promises:

1. He promised that he would not use the town surplus to offset the town's budget increases; he claimed that it was irresponsible to use surplus money in that manor. In his opinion that was "mortgaging our future."

2. He promised that he would end the bickering and work in a bipartisan manor to put Fairfield on a better course.

3. He promised to deliver senior housing at 70 Sanford Street and that he would be able to get additional funding from the state to offset this expense.

4. He promised to resolve the High School space problem by bring a quick resolution to the table, so the townspeople would have the opportunity to speak by a referendum.

5. He promised to acquire additional state grants to purchase open space.

We now have almost 2 years to judge how successful he was on these few promises.

1. He used surplus money to offset his budget, and he went one step worse to mortgage our future. He took expenses that had historically always been funded by the annual budget and bonded them, so the taxes wouldn't be even higher then the 10% we have seen over the last 2 years. When you consider that we are going to be bonding over $200,000,000 over the next few years, wouldn't it have served the town better to try to put some additional monies away? But maybe I misunderstood that HIGHER STANDARDS really meant HIGHER TAXES.

2. Not only hasn't he worked in a bipartisan manor; he hasn't even been able to convince his own party that his vision for Fairfield is the right one. The HIGHER STANDARD he has attained here is that he has not only alienated the opposition party, he has splintered his own.

3. Senior housing, I guess that was one of those HIGHER STANDARDS, lost in the stratosphere promises.

4. High School space was won not by any HIGH STANDARD it was resolved by attrition. It took 1 1/2 years, to get to our current solution. It took that long because he was incapable of securing support from republican controlled boards to any of the previous plans, so we the townsfolk could have an opportunity to voice our opinion through a referendum. In the process he has left many people with an awful taste in their mouths.

5. Additional state aid for open space purchases. Well that hasn't been a problem, for the HIGHER STANDARD is don't buy anything and you won't need more money. That’s right, the town of Fairfield has ceased purchases of open space.

Well that is some of my opinions on this administration. I don't think we could have picked a worse person to run this town, even if our goal was to destroy Fairfield.
